It seems like it has been months since I scrambled down to my “Crypto Market Is Taking a Dive” bunker. I have been peeking out now and again hoping to see that market conditions are improving, but…well, you know.

In the interest of full disclosure, the first half of that paragraph is a lie. I didn’t actually go down in a bunker. But there have been times – like today, for instance – that I briefly considered running out in traffic.

Okay, not really (again).

But to say it’s been a wild ride since I jumped into the crypto market late last year would be an understatement. My timing probably couldn’t have been worse. It was so bad even that it makes me wonder if I could even time the traffic right to do myself any damage were I to run out into it. From the get-go, however, I have committed to the long haul. I was a HODLer before I knew what HODL meant.

So, at risk of being labeled a FUD if I go on any longer, I will just share the rundown (the reeeeeeeeallly rundown) portfolio overview:

Portfolio by Percentage

  • Litecoin (LTC): 56.53%
  • Bitcoin (BTC): 20.59%
  • Ethereum (ETH): 9.19%
  • Ripple (XRP): 3.88%
  • DigiByte (DGB): 3.86%
  • ZCash (ZEC): 3.11%
  • Siacoin (SC): 1.02%
  • Verge (XVG): 0.71%
  • Stellar Lumens (XLM): 0.51%
  • Monero (XMR): 0.42%
  • Bread (BRD): 0.11%

Percentage Gain/Loss Calendar YTD

  • -48.89% (Ouch)

Additions to the Portfolio

I have only added Litecoin and Bitcoin this calendar year. I made a considerable buy of Litecoin over a few weeks in the spring and made a single, large-ish buy of Bitcoin in late winter. I have been reluctant to buy back into any of the alt coins I have in the portfolio. I have also limited any purchases of the Big 3 until I feel like the market is coming back a bit. I’m confident in the long term, but in the short term, I’m a chicken about jumping back in.

One Thing I Learned

Investing in the Crypto Market is not for the weak. I jumped in – like so many others – thinking I could easily flip a quick buck. I am glad as I sit here today that the dollars I dedicated were dollars I could afford to lose, but it’s still not been a fun ride. Again, long term, I feel fine about everything. But it sure would be nice to pop open Blockfolio and see some big numbers again!

Final Thoughts

I feel like I’ve earned a medal for hanging in there during this longer-than-expected dip. I know that we likely aren’t going to make back our losses this calendar year, but who knows in the crazy crypto world?!? Right now the numbers on the old Blockfolio feed are teeny-tiny, but I haven’t wavered. It all just gives me further confidence to continue to research, learn and grow with the incredible potential (I still believe!) that the crypto market offers.
