As Facebook users worldwide hit 2.4 billion in the coming months, it’s easy to make the argument that Facebook has connected the world–of course, in better and worse ways.
But its newest product is the long awaited reveal of Libra, a global payments system utilizing cryptocurrency.
In developing regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa, 2/3s of people are listed as “unbanked.” While infrastructure and corruption have prevented more traditional progress, new technologies are equipping people within the regions with capabilities to more efficiently transact. If the Libra project takes off, global unbanked citizens could bring a revolution to transactions. Love or hate Facebook, this project will move blockchain and cryptocurrency knowledge to the masses.
